Arc de Triomphe
Review
The Arc de Triomphe (Arc de Triomphe de l'Étoile) is one of the most famous monuments in Paris. It stands in the centre of the Place Charles de Gaulle (originally named Place de l'Étoile), at the western end of the Champs-Élysées.The étoile ('star') is formed by twelve radiating avenues (...) (from Wikipedia).
Napoleon promised his soldiers that they would return “beneath triumphal arches” after his victory at the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805. The Arc de Triomphe proves he was a man of his word. An eternal flame burns near the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier to symbolize remembrance for unidentified soldiers everywhere. You can climb to the viewing platform and small museum at the top.
Address: Arc de Triomphe, Place Charles de Gaulle, 75008, Paris.
