Moai on Easter Island, Chile
Stretching some 4,600 km along the Pacific coast of South America, reaching from north of the Tropic of Capricorn all the way south to Cape Horn, Chile is home to expansive mountain ranges, sandy beaches, and a vast array of landscapes that have to be seen to be believed.

The country’s main gateway is its capital city of Santiago. Many tourists arrive at Comodoro Arturo Merino Benitez International Airport, located just outside of the city. A number of visitors, mainly from Argentina, also arrive by road via the Paso Internacional Los Libertadores mountain pass. From either of these, almost all of Chile’s featured attractions are within reach.

Visitors planning a trip to Chile are spoilt for choice when it comes to natural beauty. From the stunning glacial fjords of Patagonia to the red sands and dirt of the Atacama Desert; from the picturesque town of Pucon set against a volcanic backdrop to the surfing-friendly seas of northern Chile, the natural world never fails to amaze in this part of the world.

Other popular remote destinations include the El Tatio geyser field, San Rafael Glacier, Lauca National Park, and the penguin inhabited Magdalena Island.

The city of Santiago is a popular tourist destination in its own right. Historic landmarks like La Moneda Palace and the stunning views of Cerro San Cristobal are not to be forgotten, while the city’s cuisine and wine is excellent and its vibrant, bustling streets are full of hidden treasures.

One of Chile’s most fascinating destinations actually resides almost 4,000km west of Santiago. Rapa Nui, or Easter Island as it is also known, officially falls under the administration of Chile, and is one of its most popular tourists attractions. Visitors wishing to visit the island and its awe-inspiring Moai are required to fly from Satiago to Mataveri International Airport on Rapa Nui. Due to conservation issues and the island’s remote location, this isn’t a cheap journey.

Slightly closer but still situated 600km from the mainland, the Juan Fernandez Islands are also a popular entry on many a Chile trip plan. Here visitors can relax under the South Pacific sunshine while enjoying a spot of fishing, or indulge in an equally as relaxing pursuit.
