Thanks to its blend of beautiful beaches, wild nightlife and strangely unique attractions, some 13 million visitors plan a trip to Miami each year, making the southeastern Florida city one of the United States’ most popular tourist destinations. The city is chiefly served by Miami International Airport, located at the heart of the city, although Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, which lies 30 minutes up the coast, also welcomes a large number of travelers making their way to Miami.

Bordered by the Atlantic coast, the city’s pastel-colored, art deco architecture has proven to be a draw since Miami experienced a resurgence in popularity in the 1980s. Today, many of these distinctive buildings are protected for their historical heritage.

Visitors to Miami generally head to South Beach, home to the Deco District and some of the region’s best beaches. The world-famous Ocean Drive features restaurants, shops, hotels and nightclubs upon its sidewalks as it flanks the sandy beaches and warm waters that prove popular with locals and tourists alike. The likes of Lummus Park Beach and Sunny Isles Beach make for ideal destinations for those looking to enjoy beach sports, surfing and kayaking or those simply looking to enjoy the Sunshine State’s best attribute; the sun.

Visitors looking to enjoy the eclectic nature of Miami should add the likes of Little Havana and Coral Gables to their Miami trip plan. Little Havana is the city’s Hispanic quarter. While it might not hold too many traditional tourist attractions, the district is full of character and color, and features some of the best food to be found in the city. At the other end of the scale, Coral Gables is one of the richest neighborhoods in all of Florida. Visitors can expect to see a wealth of stunning buildings and attractions, including the Biltmore Hotel and Venetian pool.

Other popular attractions in and around the city include the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens, the Lowe Art Gallery and Bonnet House. The likes of Miami Metrozoo, the Flamingo Gardens and the Miami Seaquarium offer family-friendly destinations.

Those looking to enjoy Florida at large should take a trip along the Gold Coast Highway, which takes in the likes of Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and Palm Beach, while the Florida Keys and Key West in particular make for a thoroughly enjoyable trip. Those that prefer the wilder side of life will get a kick out of an Everglades tour.
