Brasília, Federal District, Brazil
Staking a claim to be the fourth largest country in the world, Brazil is also the second most popular tourist destination in South America. Only bordering Argentina attracts more visitors. Those planning a trip to Brazil will first need to decide where in the country they are looking to visit. Almost all visitors will arrive at one of the country’s major airports: Galeao International Airport (Rio de Janeiro), Brasilia-Presidente Juscelino Kubitschek International Airport (Brasilia) or Sao Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport (Sao Paulo). From each of these the adventure begins.

Brazil’s most popular destination is the city of Rio de Janeiro. Here visitors can enjoy a colorful atmosphere, particularly at carnival time, while visiting renowned sites such as the statue of Christ the Redeemer, Copacabana Beach and the city’s beautiful national parks.

Despite being more closely associated with the business world, both Brasilia and Sao Paulo also house intriguing landmarks, tourist attractions and picturesque vistas, making a visit pleasant and enjoyable. Like Rio, each also features a terrific nightlife.

Not all Brazil trip plans focus around these sprawling cities though. In fact, the country’s natural landscapes are perhaps even more impressive than the delights of city life.

Brazil features a wealth of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the most popular of which is the Iguaçu Falls. Located on the border of Brazil and Argentina, this vast series of waterfalls is equal to the likes of Niagara Falls in North America and Victoria Falls in Africa. Visitors have no choice but to stare on in amazement.

The wetlands of Pantanal in western Brazil are also popular with adventure and eco-tourists. Here wildlife – including jaguars, capybara, and caiman – can be seen in their natural habitat. Similarly, the Amazon – the second longest river in the world – is a primary choice with those looking to see a magnificent wildlife as well as a truly stunning habitat. Although the rainforest is at risk from deforestation, those embarking on an Amazon tour continue to revel at how untouched the place feels.

Of course, Brazil is also famous for its sandy beaches. Those in northeast Brazil, close to the Equator, make for an ideal destination to bask under the sun, while the entire stretch of Brazilian coastline is home to an uncanny number of secret paradises.
